EXECUTIVE PROFILE: CLEAN ENERGY & SUSTAINABLE FINANCE EXPERTISE
Australia’s ambition to become a renewable energy superpower faces a critical challenge: a severe shortage of expertise in sustainable finance, a key enabling sector for the nation’s Tier One priority of renewable energy and low-emission technologies. My unique interdisciplinary expertise in clean energy finance addresses this strategic gap at a crucial time when only 6.8% of finance professionals globally possess green skills, as revealed by LinkedIn’s 2023 Global Green Skills Report.
Over the past decade, I have developed financial solutions to accelerate clean energy transition, working in collaboration with industry experts. My research, published in highly ranked international journals including Energy Policy (ranked 41 under ‘Energy’ subject area in SCImago Journal Rank) and Renewable Energy (ranked 64 under ‘Energy’ subject area in SCImago Journal Rank), has advanced our understanding of how financial markets and policies can drive clean energy adoption. This academic rigor is complemented by my industry experience at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) and Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), where I have designed innovative financing mechanisms for renewable energy and e-mobility sectors.
The international impact of my work is evidenced by multiple achievements. Two of my recently co-authored papers on climate/clean energy finance have been admitted as official input papers for the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group under the Brazilian Presidency, demonstrating direct influence on global policy. My research on financing coal power plant repurposing, originally published by the World Economic Forum, has shaped policy discussions at both the Reserve Bank of India and the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ).
I have also made significant contributions to four books: co-authoring “The Central Bank’s Role in Energy Transition” in Powering India’s Future (2023), three chapters in “Net-Zero Trio: Synchronizing Technology, Business and Policy for Green Transition” (Bloomsbury, 2024), a chapter on “Decarbonisation Goals” focusing on sustainability-linked finance frameworks in The Role of Coal in a Sustainable Energy Mix for India (Taylor & Francis, 2024), and an upcoming chapter on “Blended Capital Market Mechanisms for Critical Decarbonisation Projects in India” to be published by Routledge in April 2025.
My expertise in clean energy finance has been recognized through invitations to speak at prestigious international forums. I have presented at the Asia Energy Security and Transition Cooperation Forum in Beijing, the International Workshop on Financial System Architecture & Stability (IWFSAS-2021), and most recently as a panelist at the 2023 APEC Climate Symposium on “Enhancing Energy Security in a Changing Climate for a Resilient Future.”
I was awarded the prestigious Capital Market Cooperative Research Centre (CMCRC) scholarship by the Australian Government (A$175,000 plus A$150,000 tuition waiver) to pursue independent research. This research has led to my current paper on corporate carbon risk management, which is under final “Review and Resubmit” with the Journal of Corporate Finance (ranked 69 under ‘Business, Management and Accounting’ subject area in SCImago Journal Rank; A* rated by the Australian Business Dean Council), demonstrating my ability to produce internationally recognized research while developing practical financial solutions for the renewable energy sector.
My analysis has been cited by leading global media outlets including Bloomberg, Reuters, and Financial Times, and I have actively engaged in policy development through contributions to public consultations on sustainable finance regulations across multiple jurisdictions, including Australia’s Treasury’s Sustainable Finance Strategy and DCCEEW’s Electricity and Energy Sector Plan.
My experience includes collaborations with global institutions such as KfW, HSBC, and the World Bank, developing innovative financial solutions for scaling up renewable energy investments and pioneering financial instruments for accelerating electric mobility adoption. This experience in both developed and emerging markets provides valuable insights for Australia’s clean energy transition.
This combination of scholarly excellence, industry expertise, and demonstrated international impact positions me to contribute meaningfully to Australia’s green economy transition. The Australian Green Economy Prospectus 2023 emphasizes that expertise in clean energy and climate finance is crucial for unlocking Australia’s renewable energy potential. My experience in influencing policy, designing practical solutions, and driving innovation in renewable energy and low-emission technologies aligns with Australia’s strategic priorities for its economic future. The following section presents my detailed resume, which elaborates on these achievements with complete references and citations to published work, policy contributions, and industry collaborations.
